Cyprus – the Greek side: Ayia Napa, Paphos and the Troodos Mountains

Cyprus

Cyprus is an island of contrasts – from lively resorts, through major archaeological sites, to cooler mountain areas inland. Below is a selection of the most important places on the Greek side of the island.

Larnaca – sunrise and the salt lake

Larnaca is a great place to start your journey.

  • Salt Lake near the airport – in winter, when the water level is higher, you can see pink flamingos.
  • Mornings by the sea offer beautiful sunrises.

Ayia Napa – more than just parties

Ayia Napa is mainly known as a party resort, but it also offers interesting sights beyond the clubs.

Love Bridge
A natural rock bridge stretching over the sea – one of the most photogenic spots in the area.

Cape Greco
A headland with cliffs, rock formations and crystal-clear water, perfect for walks and snorkelling.

Paphos and surroundings

The Paphos region is one of the most important historical areas of Cyprus.

Tombs of the Kings
Monumental tombs carved into the rock, dating from the Hellenistic and Roman periods.

Aphrodite’s Rock (Petra tou Romiou)
According to mythology, the birthplace of Aphrodite – one of the island’s icons.

Lara Beach
A wild coastline that serves as a nesting site for sea turtles – a protected area.

Avakas Gorge
A gorge with high, narrow walls – one of the most interesting hiking routes in the region.

Queen’s Bay Hotel
A good accommodation base near Paphos, with access to coves and beaches.

Aphrodite’s Trail

A hiking trail of about 7–8 km running along the coast near Paphos. It is demanding – high temperatures, little shade and steep ascents make good preparation and plenty of water essential.

The Troodos Mountains and Mount Olympus

The central part of Cyprus offers a completely different landscape:

  • a cooler climate,
  • pine forests and mountain roads,
  • Mount Olympus – the highest peak on the island.

It’s a perfect place to escape the coastal heat and discover a less touristy side of Cyprus.

The Greek side of Cyprus offers far more than just beaches – it is a blend of mythology, ancient history, wild nature and surprisingly mountainous scenery.
