Oludeniz in Turkey is famous for its unusual attraction – paragliding. It is reportedly one of the best places in the world where you can do this. There are beautiful views, high mountains, islands, turquoise lagoons, beaches… The take off take place from the peak of Babadag Mountain 1,969 m and the flight ends with landing on the beach in Oludeniz. There are many companies where you can book your flight in advance. The cost per person is around 80-150 euros, plus an additional cost for recording and photos 30 – 60 euros, the price includes the transfer to Babadag and insurance.
Sitting on the beach in Oludeniz, the sky is covered with colorful parachutes from morning to sunset, a beautiful sight and invitation to try it. However, there is also the stress of jumping into the abyss from almost 2000 meters and flying for probably 20-30 minutes (I’m not sure how long it lasted)…
I was very afraid of paragliding and alive_n_travelin https://www.instagram.com/alive_n_travelin/?hl=en is afraid of heights! Great team to try this 😅 He came up with the idea the day before the flight that we would go on the chairlift to Mount Babadag to toughen up and prepare for the height and experience of being in the air. It was a great idea, it helped us a lot. You can laugh, but we were paralyzed with fear in the chair 🙂 However, it really helped for the next day.
In the video below you will see the start, acceleration and jumping into the abyss from almost 2000 meters – I admit that it was the worst moment for me, because the first try failed… We started running, but the parachute did not catch the wind and we stopped abruptly, and I almost fell over. I don’t know why it may happen, but luckily the second time it worked and we took off. The flight itself is beautiful because you focus on the views, not how high you are above the ground. What’s funny, I was afraid to let my hands go and held on to the ropes so tight that later got sore 🙂
The paragliding instructor asks if you want acrobatics in the air or not. I decided to give it a try, and then felt comfortable to try more, and we were spinning in a spiral in the air.
In short, paragliding is scary and fascinating 🙂
Landing takes place on a designated runway on the beach, where the tourists often pass because they do not see the signs. There are also people who catch you when landing and help you stop, although it is not always necessary.
If you want to fulfill your dream of flying or overcome your fear of heights, be sure to give it a try, as paragliding seems to be the most gentle one of the rest, like bungee and skydiving. Also doing it in such place is a good idea as the magnificent views while in the air, help to handle the fear and keep your blood going. Good luck!
